Chicken Lollipops. Red India Bistro, you had us at Chicken Lollipops. That menu item, one of many at the brand-new Indian-Chinese fusion restaurant in Addison, certainly caught our attention. What kept our attention however, was the bistro's other notable qualities implemented by owner Pramod Prodduturi, who also is behind successful and growing Masala/Masala Wok concepts. Red India's 2,000 square-foot lounge is open until midnight Sundays through Thursdays and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Sat

  • Veggie Girl: Kalachandji's

Our new feature searching for vegan and vegetarian dining options in Dallas--both at restaurants committed to the cause and regular, meat eating places.Being vegan is supposed to do lots of lovely spiritual and gastrointestinal things to you. You're supposed to feel lighter and healthier, for one. And your bowels work better (if "better" can be defined as "with alarming frequency"). A less-publicized side effect of veganism, however, is the constant urban foraging.Since going vegan, I've been r

  • Veggie Girl: Cosmic Cafe

Fill in the blank: The best thing about Cosmic Café is... ...a deck of Tarot cards at every table. ...free yoga. ...unlimited mugs of soy chai. ...delicious plates of all-veggie food, whose prices all add up to multiples of nine. (We don't know why. We asked our waitress, and neither did she...but in Tarot, nine symbolizes completion of a cycle.) ...vegan cake! If you've been there, you know the answer: All of the above. At first, I didn't want to write about Cosmic Café because it seems f

  • 10 Questions: Samir Dhurandhar

Nick & Sam's celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Ten years of prime beef, pan-seared foie gras and such, all cooked under the direction of an Indian chef.Dhurandhar has been cooking pretty much all his life. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and apprenticed in New York before Phil Romano and Joe Palladino nabbed him to open their Dallas steakhouse. This winter, Dhurandhar helped opened the downscaled off-shoot, Nick & Sam's Grill. The popular new place gives him t

  • Veggie Girl: Dosa Cafe

View Larger Map If Frank and I had ever dated, our first date would have been the time he invited me to eat real, honest-to-goodness Taiwanese food in Richardson. I've been a Chinese-and-related food hater for most of my life, with the exception of this one vegetarian place in L.A. where I haven't been since 1990. Still, against my better judgment, every couple of years I jump at the chance to try some "real" East Asian food, hoping it'll be different this time. That time with Frank, it was.

  • Veggie Guy: Madras Pavilion

May seem bizarre to some that I would compare a South Indian dinner to my Mexican grandmother's breakfast taquitos, but that's exactly what came to mind while chowing down on my potato-filled dosa at Madras Pavilion. Growing up, my brother Michael and I hated eggs. Still do, in fact. Whenever Grandma would incorporate chicken placenta into our meals, we'd about lose our shit! Eventually she caught on and began experimenting with spices and add-ins to make our meals look and taste as lively
