  • For Now, At Least, Mayor Leppert Won't Try to Sink the Inland Port

It's over.Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert just cried "Uncle!" in the battle over the Southern Dallas "inland port," an expandable map of which is available at right. Chris Heinbaugh, the mayor's spokesman, confirmed for me by e-mail mere minutes ago reports I heard yesterday afternoon that Leppert was pulling his support from a so-called "master plan" for the Southern Dallas inland port. This is a very big deal.

  • Foster's Brook, or: The Dallas County Judge is Smarter Than He Lets On

This should be said: One of the heroes in the otherwise ugly stupid saga of the inland port development in Southern Dallas has been Dallas County Judge Jim Foster.First of all: He figured it out. A very good source close to the county commissioners told me, "He's like a little detective. He's quiet, and he doesn't say much, but he sleuths things out."Foster figured out sooner than most people that a so-called "master plan" for the inland port dreamed up by Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley P

I refuse to play favorites, so the list is chronological. • Skunked! C'mon, John Wiley Price, Jim Schutze Does Not Smell That Bad.

Last night, after that town hall meeting, I spotted Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price standing alone outside the Harold Wendell Lang Middle School. I approached him, because the commissioner had been ducking my calls and e-mails for a couple months, and I had some business to transact with him.As soon as I got up in his face, the commissioner started shouting, "Skunk! Skunk!" and holding his nose.My good buddy, school board member Ron Price, standing a few feet away, called to a Dalla

  • Shaken and Half-Baked, or: John Wiley Price, There's a Reason God Invented Tape Recorders

Brandon ThibodeauxJohn Wiley Price is threatening legal action over Schutze's inland port stories. It was strange to pick up The Dallas Morning News today and learn that Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price has impugned the integrity of Dallas Observer columnist Jim Schutze. The commish accuses Schutze of reporting comments made by two public officials -- U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson and Dallas County Judge Jim Foster -- who, Price maintains, accused him of allegedly trying to

  • It's Not Like John Wiley Price Has Hidden His Intentions Concerning the Inland Port

The real tragedy of the Inland Port situation is illustrated by the sound file you can listen to at the bottom of this item -- an excerpt from Cheryl Smith's long-running program Reporter's Round Table on KKDA-FM (104.5). If you listen to this carefully, you will discover some important things about the way some officials in southern Dallas view economic development. In the clip, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price states categorically that he is not interested in the jobs that will be pr

Dallas County Judge Jim Foster isn't the only guy at 411 Elm Street on Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price's shit list; there's always Commissioner Ken Mayfield, last seen arguing with Price over the meaning of a "black hole." Now, this chapter in their ongoing love affair: WFAA-Channel 8 has the video of Price and Mayfield's nose-to-nose showdown concerning the power-washing of sidewalks covered in bird excrement and the accidental moistening of Mayfield, who asked Price to reschedule t

  • Judge Rules That John Wiley Price Can Take County Judge Jim Foster's Deposition

Dallas County Judge Jim FosterToday Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price made some progress in his legal battle against Dallas County Judge Jim Foster, who has been ordered to submit to a deposition so that Price might investigate whether he wishes to pursue a defamation claim against Foster for statements he made to the Dallas Observer about Price's role and vote regarding the Inland Port, a mega-development in southern Dallas. Price petitioned the court earlier this month to take the pr

  • John Wiley Price, Still Fit at 59!

Hard to believe it's been nine whole years since John Wiley Price's "JWP Fit at 50" calendar.Month or so ago, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price called me up and reamed me out for suggesting he may be carrying water for Ross Perot Jr. and the Perot-dominated Alliance freight airport in Fort Worth. The commissioner told me he barely knows Mr. Perot and said he couldn't remember ever having spoken to him.Of course, this all has to do with Dallas's Inland Port rail center project in South

  • Be Careful What You Ask: Judge Foster Spills the Beans About an Alleged FBI Investigation of John Wiley Price and the Inland Port

In a sworn deposition filed in Dallas today, Dallas County Judge Jim Foster is quoted saying he has spoken with the FBI "on many occasions" concerning an ongoing FBI investigation of Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and the southern Dallas "inland port" project. Reached for comment this afternoon, Foster would only say, "I was under oath to tell the truth." Price did not return phone multiple messages and e-mails asking for comment. The deposition was filed and made public record b
