  • Play-N-Skillz Check Their Fresh, Comment On Their Grammy Win

Given the amount of hoopla surrounding the red-hot local production duo of Play-N-Skillz lately--the abundant MTV coverage, the Grammys pre-party, etc.--the brothers Salinas (Juan and Oscar) had plenty of confidence heading into Sunday night's Grammy Awards--maybe too much, considering how, last week, before the awards show, Juan (aka Play) promised a crowd at Plush that "We're gonna bring that Grammy back to Dallas!"Technically, the fellas had three nominations to their name heading into Sunda

  • It's "Dallas Week" Over At MTV.com...

Looks like the fruits of MTV's labor from a few weeks back, when the network followed D-Town production wunderkinds Play-N-Skillz around town for a party at plush and a dance instruction deal at Big T Bazaar are gonna be unraveling over on MTV.com all week--if the above promo, which features non-Dallasites Bun B, Too $hort, Pitbull, Paul Wall, Slim Thug and actual Dallasties Big Tuck and Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin, is to be believed. As you already knew, each of the previously dropped names was

  • Got Money? Not So Much, It Turns Out

You hear the Play-N-Skillz name dropped at the start of the Lil Wayne song "Got Money," sure--which makes sense, as the local products produced the beat for the song--but word today is that, despite all the talk we heard in the past year about how much producing the track would boost the local rapping and producing duo's careers, um, well, it might not have. At least not monetarily, it seems.AllHipHop.com is reporting that Play-N-Skillz never received payment for their efforts--not one penny."W

  • Listen: Play-N-Skillz Go On K104 To Explain Why They Haven't Yet Been Paid For Their Lil Wayne Work.

On Tuesday afternoon, Play-N-Skillz went to K104's studios and talked with DJ Bay Bay about the recent stories circulating in which they claim they never got paid for their work on Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III. Turns out, the brothers Salinas aren't necessarily blaming Wayne, or anyone in particular, for their lack of compensation. No, they're just fed up--and perhaps rightfully so--about the situation. But whereas this talk was promoted as a Big Reveal, there's really not too much to it--well, asi

  • Play-N-Skillz Among Winners at 22nd Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards

Congratulations are in order for Dallas-based production duo Play-N-Skillz, whose work on Lil Wayne's "Got Money" was honored, along with 12 other 2008 rap songs, as the tops in its genre at this year's ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on Friday night.Granted, it was just one of four songs from Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III to earn the same honor, but, either way, a nice nod. Tweeted the brothers Salinas after their win: "thank u lord for our blessings its never promised..latinos stand up ..mo
