If you knew the tenants of this joint are a combined 7-14-3 and that the building got majorly snubbed this afternoon, you might be headed for a gold star. And stuff. Simple. Anyone getting the matches perfecto wins a year’s free subscription to the Dallas Observer (redeemable each Thursday at any local newsstand). And oh, what the heck, since I’m feeling generous I’ll throw in a couple months' free online membership to this here Sportatorium. Good luck. 1. After an announceme

  • Arlington Lands 2014 Final Four. Current Score: Arlington 35, Dallas 3

This just in: Dallas has officially moved to Arlington. Well, after Arlington's new Jonestown Coliseum snared another 100,000-kilowatt event this morning, that feels like the score. Right? On the heels of Dallas being shunned by the women's Final Four last week, the Cowboys' new stadium today landed the 2014 men's Final Four. Dallas last hosted a Final Four in 1986, same year it hosted its only NBA All-Star Game. Of course, coupled with this recent announcement, both events -- like

  • Whitt's End: 6.5.09

Whether you're at the end of your rope or merely the end of your week, welcome to Whitt's End: *Might Michael Irvin's days at ESPN Radio be numbered? This isn't sourced "breaking news", but more so a simple putting two-and-two together and arriving at a common sense conclusion. And, no, it has nothing to do with Irvin getting sued for allegedly stealing his Fourth and Long concept or the mysterious disappearance of that gun-pointing incident he reported last January. Consider

Why does a game played below the rim fly so far above the radar?I play sports because I love them. But I watch sports because I love to see done what I can't do. I watch Tiger Woods because I can't hit a 7-iron 210 yards. I watch Andy Roddick because I can't hit a serve 149 mph. I watch Kobe Bryant because I can't dunk. I read ESPN The Magazine's Rick Reilly because he can write circles around me. I watch the Dallas Desire because, well, I can't tackle hot chicks without being a

  • Richie Whitt: Unplugged, Unmasked and Universally Apologetic

This is by far the most difficult post I've ever written. But it's time. I can continue this charade no longer. Over the past 11 months on this blog I've spewed forth a plethora of radical opinions, most of which this morning I'd like to officially denounce. I admit, most of them didn't come from my heart, but only my warped and perverted head. In short, The Sportatorium is one big contrived, fabricated attempt to attract attention, prompt reaction and cash a payche

A little vamping while I toodle down to San Antonio if you don't mind. Usually I reserve my Video of the Week until Friday, but this one couldn't wait. In last Saturday's WNBA All-Star - wait, it gets funnier - Sylvia Fowles wanted to dunk. So the players cleared a lane. The refs let her travel. And the rim reminded us why the WNBA sucks. (Zoom to the 1:10 mark and prepare to be dazzled.)
