I'll get straight to the point: This ain't no Reuben sandwich. The bread isn't toasted in butter, there's no corned beef, sauerkraut or Russian dressing, and a New Yorker wouldn't think it was good enough to even throw at a cab. Is that clear?

Good, because semantics aside, what's served under the Reuben moniker at Rex's Seafood is actually a damn fine sandwich. And since the protein is grilled fish instead of corned beef brisket you could almost argue that this sandwich is good for you.

Almost.

That thick blanket of provolone cheese isn't helping anyone's arteries, and that creamy coleslaw and remoulade will do you no good, either. Still, this sandwich isn't greasy or heavy in any way, and if you're really concerned about your health, you can order yours with a side of sautéed spinach.

Drop in for lunch around 12:30 and the insane lunch rush that pummels this neighborhood favorite nearly every day will just be starting to wane. Grab a glass of iced tea, and wrap your mitts around this two-fisted beastwich. Rex's creation won't ever replace the real Reuben, but you won't be thinking about the original for at least a little while.
