100 Favorite Dishes, No. 3: The Pork Chop at So&So's

When I first read about So&So's in Uptown, and even first walked through the doors, I'll admit I wasn't expecting much. The tagline "something for everyone" painted on the wall didn't inspire much beyond pizza and burgers.

But I was wrong for many reasons, including that pork chop pictured above. It's outstanding, as good as any other pork chop I've encountered in Dallas.

Let's start with presentation: the chop cut into a fanfold of rose-pink slices of juicy pork, the bone removed, but included on the place, just in case you feel like gnawing a bit.

The supporting cast is no slouch either, as thick, creamy grits boast lots of cheese and bacon flavors on the wooden board. It's rich but not over the top, and the side doesn't overwhelm the chop.

And because pork is one of those meats that seems particularly well complimented by sweetness, a few slices of nectarine and black figs neatly quartered in bite sized pieces crown the meat. It's a chop as good as any that you'd get at fancier steak houses.
