If you're used to getting your taco fix at a taqueria along Harry Hines Boulevard, you need to get ready for some sticker shock, because the Tacos served downtown at La Ventana command a premium cost. Relax, though -- even the most expensive tacos are still cheap, and you get a lot for your money at this Meso Maya spinoff.
Let's start with handmade tortillas. Here's they're patted out with freshly ground nixtamal not long after you order your tacos. If you hold a tortilla up to your face you can smell it: freshly toasted corn. The fillings are a cut above, too.
From pastor, to barbacoa, to chicken that is somehow not dry, these tender tortillas are packed with good things. There's a vegetarian taco for those who eschew meat, and like any good taqueria, there are plenty of salsas for taco adornment.
But La Ventana's selling point might be one of the best taco eating patios in all of Dallas. When the weather's good (and the weather is always good for taco eating) a seat at one of the outdoor tables is a thing of true beauty. Grab a cold cerveza and wait for your tacos to come. It won't matter how long they take, there's always more beer.
