If you see an unusual number of cows roaming around on two legs this week, it isn't mad cow disease. Many a joyous bovine will be throwing off their sandwich boards in elation this Friday, July 9, when Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide will be celebrating Cow Appreciation Day.
Chicken (fried or breaded, spicy or original) lovers who dress like a cow from "head-to-hoof" will get a free combo meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner, depending on when you shed your human guise. Extra points for walking on all fours.
If you're not willing to look udderly ridiculous, you can dress partially like a cow with an accessory, like a headband with cow ears or a dotted tie, and receive a free entrée. Maybe it's time to use that cowhide purse your hillbilly aunt got you when you were 5.

For those without animal attire, paper cow parts, a cow mask, and sandwich boards are available online and at Chick-fil-A stores. Just print and cut them out and tape to your hide pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey style.
Be sure to capture your lapse in judgment and upload your pictures to Chick-fil-A's Facebook page for a photo contest. Voting runs from July 9 through July 31. The grand prizewinner gets free food for a year, plus a loss in dignity that'll last a lifetime.
And don't forget about the kiddies. Your little calves can dress up like their hairy friends and participate in the Chick-fil-A Kid's "Show Us the Cow" Photo Contest. Upload photos of your child dressed like a cow to Chick-fil-A's site and vote online through August 31 for best picture.
So get mooovin' to Chick-fil-A and show your support for bovines everywhere. Still no word on Chicken Appreciation Day . . .
