Green House Market in NorthPark Is Vegetable Heaven, with a Side of Wagyu Beef
Tucked behind the AMC ticket counter at Northpark Mall is Green House Market. We've talked about it before around here, and maybe you visited the concept in its previous life as a food truck. I finally went after seeing a movie this weekend, and I have one message for you: if you like vegetables, it's time to get yourself down there, because they are serving up some damn good ones.
As a vegetarian I am used to taking the one thing on the menu presented to me. "Oh you have hummus AND a side salad? That sounds amazing, I'll have that please." What I really mean is thanks for having a dish on the menu I can just order outright without having to ask a million questions.
Green House Market is different in so many delightful ways, not just for vegetarians but for anyone that likes good vegetables. They have more than 10 vegetable side dishes to choose from, many of which are seasonally inspired. And they are actually seasonally inspired, not some sort of fake homage to seasonality that features summer squash and canned tomatoes and insults my intelligence, not that I experienced that recently and am still irritated about it or anything.
I got three vegetable sides as my meal: roasted cauliflower with coriander and currants, apple cabbage slaw, and hummus with vegetable crudité and bread. Besides Garden Café, which has a killer vegetable plate (if there is such a thing), this was one of the best vegan lunches I have had in a long time.
If you need meat on your plate lest you whither and die and miss your screening of Captain America, Green House Market has not forgotten about you. They use Waygu beef from McKinney-based Local Yocal and chicken from Fran's Fryers. You can add either to your stir-fry or enjoy a burger or chicken sandwich between two pieces of Village Baking Company ciabatta. Even if you don't like vegetables that much, Village Baking Company should be reason enough to abandon Le Madeline's all you can eat bread-fest and head over to the other side of the mall for some ciabatta.
The menu also clearly marks items that are vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free. These types of markers are showing up more and more on menus in Dallas and they are always welcome because it takes the guesswork out of ordering. I don't have to ask 5 questions about what is in the food, the people behind me in line don't have to glare at me, and Green House Market gets my money faster. Everyone wins.
So next time you are at Northpark, skip the food court crazy and treat yourself to some vegetables that actually taste good. You are worth it, and Green House Market is worth seeking out.
