Friday night marked the grand opening of SugarBox, Dallas' newest dessert and coffee bar. The sweet shop -- located under the Mondrian apartments where Dimples Cupcakes used to live, at 3000 Blackburn Street -- boasts a broad selection of cupcakes, French macarons, cake balls, cakes and dog-friendly pupcakes.
What was once a space colored with hot pink and lime green has been transformed by dark browns and sea-foam blue, creating a more relaxed visual aesthetic, but with plenty of Uptown flare.
"I've had the concept in mind for about three years," says owner Terisa Novick, who signed the lease only a few months ago. And while it's Novick's dream to serve wine alongside sweets, she's sticking to various espresso beverages and teas in the Uptown space for now, since its proximity to North Dallas High School makes the liquor licensing process more expensive. For now, the shop is BYOB. Another SugarBox location is scheduled to open at The Shops at Legacy in Plano in November, though, and this location will serve wine.
