Introducing the Dallas Brewfest, a Beer-Tasting Event in the Downtown Arts District
Remember that party last year with the monkeys and the flamingos and the beer? The Observer's Brew at the Zoo drew thousands, as beer enthusiasts hit stall after stall sampling craft suds. It was a pretty damn good time.
This year the event will move to the Downtown Dallas Arts District to allow for increased attendance, and even more beer. Sadly, you'll have to bring your own primates.
Re-branded as Dallas Brewfest, this year's event will take over sections of Harwood and Flora streets in front of the Dallas Museum of Art. Beer samplings from more than 50 breweries will be available, for a total of around 150 beer options, while bands light up the space with music. A $30 admission price will get attendees 12 samples, and a VIP option adds early event access, liquor sampling and catered grub.
While the birds of prey will certainly be missed, parking and logistics issues associated with drinking at a zoo will certainly not. The Arts District offers easier access, plenty of parking and even more space to mill around when you're not waiting in line for your next beer sample.
The event is September 15, and tickets go on sale August 2 at DallasObserver.com. As the breweries, bands and other participants firm up, we'll be sure to update you with all the details.

DALLAS BREWFEST (formerly Brew at the Zoo) Saturday, September 15, 2012
EVENT OVERVIEW: Join Dallas Observer, Jack FM & 105.3 The Fan on Saturday, September 15th in the Dallas Arts District as we celebrate Dallas Brewfest. After a wildly exciting first Brew at the Zoo, the Brew at the Zoo event organizers have decided to relocate the event, now Dallas Brewfest, to the Dallas Arts District, in order to overcome parking and space issues the event faced at the Dallas Zoo.
"The inaugural Brew at the Zoo with the Dallas Observer this past year was a huge success," said Gregg Hudson, executive director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Dallas Zoo Management, Inc. "We value our partnership with the Dallas Observer, but unfortunately the event has outgrown our 3,500+ person venue. We wish them much success with Dallas Brewfest and look forward to partnering with them on future events."
Veletta Forsythe Lill, Executive Director of the Dallas Arts District, said the Dallas Brewfest is part of the District's ongoing diversification.
"We are pleased to host Brewfest in the Dallas Arts District. Attracting new audiences and hosting street festivals are key to sustainability and vibrancy in the neighborhood. Over the last few years we have hosted everything from zombie parties to the Aurora light festival, now craft beers will be in our portfolio."
