Labor Day Weekend Is Now Local Beer Appreciation Weekend. Because We Said So.
We missed the addition to the city charter on this, but turns out Labor Day weekend is now Local Beer Appreciation Weekend. Finally, a bit more structure to the otherwise languid three-day reprieve.
Deep Ellum Brewing Company is hosting one last summer bash, coined Labor of Love, to honor their home brewing brethren. They've teamed up with the North Texas Homebrewers Association and invited 21 hopheads to their patio this Sunday at 6 p.m. to talk shop. Local tunes will be provided by Boys Named Sue.
For $15 you will get a souvenir glass and a tour of the brewery. Check here for more details.
Lakewood Brewing Company made some last-minute Labor Day plans too. On Saturday at noon for $10 cash at the door, you'll get a tour of their brewery, four beers to sample and a souvenir glass for their newest beer, The Temptress Imperial Milk Stout.
To recap some other local brewery news for the weekend:
Brentney Hamilton told us about Franconia's Oktoberfest beer at Katy Ice House Trails tonight. In full celebratory spirit, they're giving away free steins.
Hamilton also reported on Vickery Park's incestuous weekend. They're tapping their last Brooklyn Summer Ale keg, and are bringing back a few other local favorites, like Peticolas' Velvet Hammer, for a "Keep it Local for Labor Day" three-day brouhaha.
Franconia is the beer-darling at the Cedars Food Park event tonight. Their head brewer and assistant brewer will be smartly milling about, ready to nerd-out on all your burning home brew questions.
Lastly, Four Corners Brewing Company is almost game ready. (They hit a snag in brewing this week.) Meanwhile, they're busy fixing up the place, like the brilliant proud rooster they recently painted on the side of their sky-blue building. Per their Facebook page, they're building a chicken coop this weekend and need your scrap sheet metal, old signs, excess wood fencing, planks of wood and such to complete the coop. If you can help, check their Facebook page.
