Mia's Gets Shunned In Two Top-Nine Tex-Mex Restaurant Lists
What's going on at Mia's?
When I put together a list of the nine best Tex-Mex restaurants back in December, commenters jumped right in with passionate opinions. Ambelleina Warwillow was so incensed, she used my post as fodder for an official break-up. "NO MIA'S?!" she wrote. "Dallas Observer, we're OVER."
Mia's omission was far from an oversight. My last few meals at the Dallas Tex-Mex staple left me wanting, and a final meal there left me mad. They clearly lost in a brisket taco shoot out against Manny's in Uptown. Then, dried out fajitas, bad salsa and stale chips sealed their fate. I decided it was time to take a break from Mia's, and left them off the list.
Now D Magazine has published a similar list of best Tex-Mex restaurants, choosing to focus on small, mom-and-pop locations instead of the Dallas-based big chains like El Fenix and El Chico. Mia's was left off that list, too. "Every joint got one chance to impress," wrote Nancy Nichols, who described dry brisket, stale chips, and old, almost rotten, onions in the cold enchiladas. "Mia's missed the mark."
Clearly I'm not the only one who's not enamored with Mia's cuisine as of late. Ms. Warwillow, please come back. We only want to fill your belly with the finest Tex-Mex possible, and we miss you.
