Food News: Novelty Candy Coming to Victory Park, Real Housewives Dine Out in Dallas and More

In this week's roundup of Dallas food news, the Real Housewives of Dallas go out to eat (can you guess where?) and a purveyor of 2-pound Rice Krispies treats comes to Victory park:

  • Victory Park has announced two sweet new concepts opening in 2018: Popbar, "famous for its handmade gelato-on-a-stick and other frozen treats," and IT’SUGAR, "a candy emporium specializing in innovative sweets, fun novelty gifts, and giant candy." Via a press release:

    "Popbar serves handcrafted gelato, sorbetto, and yogurt in a new way — on a stick. In addition to unique treats, like frozen hot chocolate on a stick, the menu includes 40+ rotating flavors, along with dippings and toppings, which allow for customizable flavor combinations. Popologists make all pops in-house daily, producing small batches of 26 popbars at a time, live in-store, using natural ingredients. Popbar will open a 690-square-foot location in June at 2420 Victory Park Lane.

    "Founded by candy veteran Jeff Rubin in 2006, IT’SUGAR is a sweet experiential retail environment that has become the largest specialty candy retailer in the world. The IT’SUGAR Empire consists of over 100 retail locations in U.S. hotspots such as New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and Chicago. Known for their absurdly wonderful sugar innovations that celebrate lighthearted rebellion, IT’SUGAR aspires to a future where everyone has access to the pure joy that comes from indulging in a world with fewer rules and more sugar. IT’SUGAR will open a 2,644-square-foot location in late April at 2401 Victory Park Lane."


    The openings are part of 10 new concepts coming Victory Park this year, including Mesero; Imoto, "an Asian kitchen and bar from Tracy Rathbun; wine bar Burgundy Swine; a restaurant by This & That Concepts (the team behind High Fives and The Standard Pour); a bar by Brooke Humphries (also known for Barcadia, Beauty Bar and Pints & Quarts); a 24,000-square-foot restaurant and entertainment concept in Victory Plaza by Humphries and Elias Pope’s 8020 Hospitality (the team behind HG Sply Co.); and two unique concepts by Rebees, led by Dallas entrepreneur Tristan Simon: a modern Texas saloon and a creative workspace with a day-focused café."

  • Love them or hate them, the cast of Real Housewives of Dallas has been spotted filming a new season in Dallas, and Stephanie Hollman, LeeAnne Locken and Kameron Westcott dined out with a film crew in tow at a locally owned restaurant. Can you guess which one? No? OK, we'll spoil it for you: It was Lark on the Park in the Arts District. How cultured of them.

  • A new restaurant opened in Addison yesterday: Porcinos, promising "classic comfort cooking in an upscale farmhouse atmosphere," according to a press release. The new eatery comes from the company behind Edith's French Bistro in Mockingbird Station. Damian Edmos, formerly of Princi Italia, is executive chef.

    "Porcino is an Italian word that refers to swine, and pork will appear on [or] in numerous menu items including their signature baby back ribs and irresistible rolled pork roast stuffed with lemon and herbs and paired with grits," according to the release. "But the name Porcinos is also chosen for its symbolic value: Hogs are an animal where every part gets used, from snout to tail — an approach that the restaurant will follow, right down to making their own sausage in-house."

    The new restaurant will slow-roast meats on a rotisserie and is on the ground floor of the Spectrum Center at Belt Line Road and the Dallas North Tollway in the former Chaucer's space. The space has two patios and a "360-degree inside/outside bar," and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, along with weekend brunch. Porcinos is at 5015 Beltline Road.

  • Popular local sweets spot Bisous Bisous Patisserie has announced a change after three years in operation: The patisserie is open on Mondays and is "sweetening the deal by offering a free French macaron with purchase to every customer on Mondays in April," according to the release. Macaron Monday is totally about to be a thing.

  • A Fort Worth taco favorite is moving into Dallas, CultureMap reports: Taco Heads is opening a location at 1921 Henderson Ave., in the space most recently occupied by Lekka. The restaurant is slated to open in June. "[Chef Sarah Castillo] first launched Taco Heads as a food truck in 2010, selling tacos out of a trailer in the West 7th area of Fort Worth," CultureMap reports. "Her unique selling points included her late-night hours and her willingness to serve breakfast tacos at night."
