Primebar, the New Uptown Bar-Restaurant, Puts the Swank in Sporty
Not a bad way to watch a game.
Lauren Drewes Daniels
Primebar opened in Uptown last week, and I got to check it out briefly on Friday. I'll definitely put it on my places to go when I want to dabble in swank while a watching a playoff game and drinking a microbrew.
There are several different areas to explore in the new eatery. There's a laid back outdoor patio with lots of tables and a few TVs, where you can eat or just drink and hang. Inside is a dark, more lavish main dining room with cushy half-circle booths in which to snuggle up. Smack in the middle of that is a long bar with forty beers on tap. Then there's also a second smaller bar area between the dining room and patio. Options. It's really all about options. Inside. Outside. Main bar. Side bar. Upscale or laid back.
The menu has basics like burgers and salads, but gets adventurous with things like horseradish-crusted salmon. I spoke with GM Matthew about some sustainable produce.
"That's a big thing for us," he told me. "We go to the Dallas Farmer's Market at least three times a week to buy fresh herbs and, across the board, anything we can use in our food and even our drinks."
Chef Paul Niekrasz moved down from Chicago for the gig, most recently having worked at One North Kitchen and Bar in Chicago.
On a side note, their bathrooms are awesome. I love it when the stall doors go all the way to the floor because it's like having a hide-away, should you need one. Again. Options, it's nice to just have that option. Never know when you may need to hide.
