Thursday, April 4
Garden Café will host Freedom Through Food, a small gathering of local sustainable food and gardening activists, including Suzie Marshall of GROW North Texas. Chef Chad Houser and Graham Dodds will be cooking at the event, which starts at 5:45 p.m. Scott Reitz got more details earlier this week. Let's go plant!
Friday, April 5
If you've been hankering to hit the road, consider heading southeasterly for Saint Arnold Brewing Co.'s New Orleans Super Weekend that includes a crawfish and beer happy hour with Divine Reserves No. 4 and 5 at The Avenue Pub. It's followed by a Saturday afternoon French Quarter pub crawl. That just wouldn't be any fun at all.
Saturday, April 6
The Big Texas Beer Fest is this weekend. Here are the details: It's big, in Texas, there will be beer and it's a festival. So, you're in, right? You better make hoppy haste if you haven't gotten tickets yet. Here's the list of beers and Fish Fry Bingo will help you find your groove at the Fair Park Automobile Building. Things get going at 2 p.m. and will wrap up at 6:30.
Meanwhile, The Meddlesome Moth in the Design District will kick off Ale Week, which will feature a "wood-influenced" tap takeover. There will be special tappings all week, including a few surprises, which we can't tell you about because then it wouldn't be a surprise. (You know what would be the funniest surprise? "Surprise! We're not tapping anything tonight.")
Bar proprietor and professional mixer of cocktails, Jason Kosmas, is holding a clinic on properly made cocktails (specifically how to shake them) at Sigel's at 5757 Greenville Ave. Drinks will be crafted with Kosmas' award-winning line of spirits, The 86 Company. You have only a few more days to finish Choke by Chuck Palahniuk for the Black Swan Saloon's Hemingway Book Club. Literary inspired cocktails, Heimlich maneuvers and friendly book club banter begins at 6 p.m.
Monday, April 8
LUCK, a new restaurant slated for the Trinity Groves incubator project, continues to work on fine-tuning the particulars by hosting a five-course pop up beer dinner with Community Beer Co. The menu includes beer-braised pork shoulder "raviolo" and smoked and braised beef short ribs with a blue corn and blue cheese grits. Each course is paired with a different beer. Dinner costs $60 and is at Bonnel's Fine Texas Cuisine at 42459 Bryant Irvin Road in Fort Worth.
Tuesday, April 9
Chef de duisine Danyele McPherson of The Grape on Greenville Avenue has teamed up with Four Corners Brewing Co. for a dinner that will showcase the craft brewers Local Buzz Honey-Rye Gold Ale, Red's Rojo American Red Ale, Block Party Robust Porter and Paletero Pale Ale, each paired with a course.
