Six Awesome Food Events This Weekend, August 27-30: Fair Food, Booze and Banana Pudding
Kind of makes you want to cry, doesn't it?
The 2nd Annual Strike Out ALS event raises money for the ALS Association of Texas. The organizers for this event are smart; they know that one surefire way to inspire philanthropy in people is to ply them with booze. Preferably local booze of the craft variety. The event will be held at Deep Ellum Brewery, where folks who donate $15 will receive a brewery tour, three beers and a pint glass to take home. And yes, you can participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge, too.

It's been one year since Ten 50 BBQ opened their doors and subsequently narrowed the arteries of North Texans with their smoky, delicious offerings. In celebration of this momeatous occasion,Ten 50 is throwing a block party. The party will feature live music courtesy of the Big Daddy Band from 6-9 p.m. as well as free banana pudding, drink specials and burnt ends.

Shannon Brewing Co. is also celebrating their one year anniversary this week. The brewery will mark the occasion with food vendors, live music and, of course, lots of beer. Limited run, seasonal and new releases will all be on tap. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door.

The betches will take to this event like moths to a closet filled with Italian merino sweaters. This Sunday, Lark on the Park's brunch will take on a distinctly pinkish hue. The special, three course menu was built around rose wines selected by chefs Melody Bishop and Dennis Kelley. The first course features a salad of arugula and stone fruit served with 2012 Sinskey Vin Gris Pinot Noir, the second course pairs pork confit hash with 2014 Donkey & Goat Claim Jumper Mourvèdre and the final course of brioche French toast with figs will be served with a 2013 Terlan Lagrein. The August iteration of the Design District Market will be held at Community Beer Co. Over 40 artisans, small businesses and food vendors will set up shop, including Bombay Street Food, Steel City Pop and Gandolfo's. While the market runs until 7 p.m., the taproom will stay open until 10 p.m.

Do you have a penchant for food on sticks? Are you willing to eat anything, as long as it's been fried? If so, we've got the event for you. The State Fair of Texas' annual Big Tex Choice Awards will feature all manner of gastronomical treats. Participants will have the opportunity to try this year's finalists, including the bacon margarita, fried lobster and alligator meat. Plus, see which dish is crowned best-tasting and most-creative. Tickets are $100 per person. Proceeds benefit the SFT Youth Scholarship Fund.
