The Best Culinary Events for the Week of January 23 - 29, Including National Pie Day
It's National Pie Day! What else do you need to know? Nothing! Well, actually, two things.
1. Norma's Cafe is giving away slices of Oreo Mile-High Cream Pie all day. Dine-in only, while supplies last and all that good stuff. No fighting over pie. This brand-spanking-new pie is made with a "flaky crust, chocolate Oreo filling and meringue mixed with Oreo cookie bits piled a mile high." Norma, you rock.
2. Emporium Pies in the Bishop Arts District is serving
three four-courses of pie today. They're staring with quiches in the morning, followed by meat pies for lunch and dinner. Then, of course, just regular ol' amazing pie for dessert.
Friday, January 25 For those of you who appreciate keeping things hot, set the in-car navigation for the Irving Convention Center where ZestFest runs all weekend (January 25 - 27). Tickets are available at the door.
Saturday, January 26 Oh, Hypnotic Donuts. How you taunt us. Saturday at 8:00 a.m. is the first ever Hypnotic Donut Dash 5K in Fair Park, which will involve doughnut hole stops on the course. I know ... you just totally got into running, right? They promise a doughnut party like no other.
The Holy Grail Pub is hosting the second annual Chili Pa Looza cook-off from high noon to 9:00 p.m. this Saturday. There will be four chilies to choose from including a smoked brisket, Indian-spiced chicken, seven bean and pork shoulder. Now, start arguing about beans in 3, 2, 1...
Tuesday, January 29 Tuesdays are so much better now. No longer saddled between manic Monday and half-way gone Wednesday, Ten Bells Tavern calls it "Burger Tuesday." For $10 get a tasty burger, fries and a domestic or draft beer. Doors open a 3:00 p.m.
Wednesdays and Thursdays Every Wednesday and Thursday Thanks-Giving Square hosts Fare in the Square from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Different food trucks and local entertainers help break the monotony of the day.
