The Week In Dallas Dining: Hefty Holiday Edition
With Thanksgiving behind us and the Christmas countdown ticking away, the next few weeks promise to be extremely caloric ones. Time to break out the hats, scarves, heavy coats and elastic pants. If you're looking for food stuff to do this weekend, Lauren's got you covered, but don't start your planning quite yet. We have a week to wrap up.
This week I reviewed Sakhuu, the new Thai restaurant in East Dallas, just a block south of Jimmy's, that let's you bring your own beer to enjoy with your laab gai and pad woon sen. Looking for other BYOB restaurants? This new website has a sizable list of them.
Elsewhere on the Observer our own resident Englishman reviews the entire BBQ scene. All of it. He's like a Barbecue Snob with a thick accent who finishes his brisket with tea and scones.
Over on the Eats Blog Leslie Brenner reviewed Masami Japanese Sushi and Cuisine and awarded three stars. There's one way to eat a little lighter during the holiday season.
On Side Dish Nancy Nichols gushed about a new spirit she found at FT-33. HumBotanical is a "sexy 70 proof herbaceous liqueur made with organic rum, fair trade hibiscus, organic ginger, green cardamom and kaffir lime," writes Nichols, who was quickly informed by the folks at Sigel's that the spirit is in stock. Sounds like a potential holiday cocktail to me.
Over on Culture Map a post about the new concept to occupy the old Campo space informs us that Dallas is about to get another... wait for it... GASTROPUB! No chef is listed in association with the project.
The Gin Mill opened more than a year ago and still gives Henderson Avenue a beautiful spot to eat and drink. I wasn't too impressed with the food when I reviewed them last November, but Entree Dallas has some great shots of the new menu.
