Village Baking Company offers plenty of reasons to smile. There are the fresh baguettes that are still warm from the oven and the tangy pain au levain that make other sourdoughs seem dull. There are the slightly sticky, eggy canelé, and other gorgeous, glistening pastries. There is the wonderful smell that greets you every time you open the door to their bakery storefront.
In fact, there's just one thing about the place that could potentially tick you off, especially when you want to take fresh-baked bread home with you after you've finished work and that's their 3 p.m. closing time. Look at you with your nosed pressed to the window of a dimmed bakery as baguettes and boules frown at you from inside.
Starting today the folks at Village Baking Co. will stay open until 7 p.m. for extended holiday hours, and even indulge a second baking run in the late afternoon, which means your early evening baguette just got a lot fresher.
And because extended holiday hours at bakeries always feature special baked goods you know know that there will be pumpkin croissants and pear croissants, mini financiers, brioche, waffles and pies. Pumpkin and pecan pies will be available for your Thanksgiving needs. They'll be available by the slice as well.
