Oh, wow! That's my niece!! We've gone with her to the last three and I have to say I really enjoyed the new venue this year. The outside gardens were very nice with the serene fountains and sculptures. Ms. Kameko ^^ is the one of the best kids you will ever meet. The costumes are seriously intense and beautiful all at the same time.

Thanks to the observer for covering the A-Kon event.  Very happy to have been selected to the list of "best" I would  also like to say there are many excellent costumes not seen by the photographer (A-Kon is too big to get it all)

I ran into some of these geek nerd types on the train. I asked them why they were into comics and anime and other pointless nonsense when they could be studying engineering or perhaps exercising. One obese nerd type,  a young blade who sported a sequined fedora, replied that comics and games such as 'magic the gathering' allowed one to be a hero because everyone wants to be a hero afterall. I said that at this point in my life I just wanted to preserve what is left of my dignity and in time he will know what I mean.

@chunkyjones I happen to be one of those "geek nerd types". I'm a highly intelligent individual with a great imagination. I am owner of a special effects movie makeup company. I have been everything from an actor to helped with disaster relief. I have saved lives and made a lot of people happy in their lives. You seem to be a very bitter, closed minded kid. There are a lot of these geeks that have a lot of professional training. One of the things that they have that you don't is imagination and an attitude of enjoying life.

None the less, I am glad that there are people like you out there. There are many job positions open for engineers with no imagination to assemble the creations of those who are truly gifted. May you be happy earning a paycheck from them.

@dustinhilliard Oh come on, why do you have to diss the engineers? Some of the attendees and two of the special guests are engineers.

Plus, I don't think Chunkyjones is actually capable of being an engineer, anyway.

@youtried @dustinhilliard I wasn't dissing engineers in general, Just those that lack imagination. Engineers with creativity are helping us drive into the future. The engineers without can usually best hope to be technicians for for the things the creative ones have made.

Formal education is a wonderful thing. A very useful thing. Though, it is in and of itself only salutary. A tool to achieve a means. If someone is working through a higher education simply to gain a paycheck, then they will likely achieve that. That is the impression that I got out of Chunkyhones comment about these imaginative people and what they do as "Pointless". He simply wants to "preserve what is left of his dignity". He can. And he can fade away with that dignity. I for one will let my geek flag fly and be loved and remembered even (and especially) by the people that he seems to want to dismiss without getting to know.

@chunkyjones i have my associates in art education and i am also a proud cosplaying nerd. photo 51 is of me and my vet assistant boyfriend (most likely future husband too :) ) and we have a great time getting to come to cons and enjoy seeing all the fantastic talent that the people have at the cons and to interact with the fans. we have a "real" and boring life too, but the cons give us a splash of color to our otherwise dull lives doing menial tasks every day.

@chunkyjones Oh hey asshole, computer scientist here. My boyfriend is an engineer. There was a biology major heading to Stanford at the Art Alley. The artist of Awkward Zombie and her boyfriend are mechanical engineers. Congratulations, you tried really hard.

And guess the fuck what? We don't have to all be engineers or STEM people. Who gives a shit, we have fun and you probably don't. And, some of these cosplayers and "nerds" are more talented than you, GG

@chunkyjones No he won't know what you mean because I am his mother and I taught him to live life to the fullest and he is going to school for engineering! HAHA! Pointless, is making stupid comments like the one you made! And the contradiction of geek nerds means that they are probably smarter than you are! He has all the dignity he needs and will always have it because he is a confident individual!
