Even a four-pound red-tailed hawk can get pretty heavy after sitting on your arm all day.

The new Trinity River Audubon Center opened October 18, built on acres of reclaimed old landfill -- a trash heap that caught fire in 1997 and burned for a month. Ten years later, the eco-friendly nature learning center and miles of trails mark the first big project completed along the much-maligned Trinity River.
