For something as lighthearted as a comics page, I sure take it seriously. Point to any strip and I'll rattle off an opinion about it—from the generic, unfunny Curtis to the off-center semi-insanity of Pearls Before Swine, I know 'em all a little too well (and don't even get me started on ever-shrinking pages...you can barely make out the art these days, for pete's sake!). But my opinion of Zits is, well, neutral. Sure, the stories of an eternal 15-year-old and his parents are pretty much Calvin & Hobbes: The Next Chapter, but creators Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman's modern insights about teendom have made it an enjoyable favorite for years without reading anything like Cathy. Borgman and Scott will sign copies of their latest Zits treasury, Crack of Noon, at Borders Books & Music, 3600 McKinney Ave., at 7 p.m. Friday. Entry is free. Call 214-219-0512.
Fri., April 28, 7 p.m.
