We’ve entered a period when technology isn’t only revered, it’s considered kinda sexy, a sentiment that trickles down and factors into even less obvious fields, like art. While 20 years ago, science and art were rarely caught in bed together, in 2013 we see them as a sort of power couple, able to save one another (and in turn, the rest of us) from their own shortcomings. Case in point: local superhero Robert Stein, the deputy director of the Dallas Museum of Art. Without him, we wouldn’t have the new free membership program along with its interactive technologies. He’s been a key component in the Maxwell Anderson success story, and he’s the biggest lure for Thursday’s anticipated lecture, State of the Arts: Art and Technology, hosted, oddly, by Jeff Whittington, whose radio show Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Know could easily be replaced by A Google Search. It’s happening at 7:30 p.m. in the Horchow Auditorium, which is near the DMA gift shop, 1717 Harwood St. It’s only $5 to attend, plus you’ll get membership points. Possibly extra points if you high-five Stein.
