Anti-Elmo Holiday Cheer

For 11 months out of the year, you struggle to find family-centric fun that won’t make you go crazy. Sometimes you luck out and find an activity that doesn’t involve Elmo screeching about his goldfish — but sadly, others you’re just stuck with. Ah, but the month of December serves up tons of Elmo-free family fun on a silver platter — with Christmas cookies, even! Frisco Discovery Center’s Polar Express 2012 Pajama Party on Friday is one such event, giving your kids the option of dressing in their bedtime finery for a festival’s worth of holiday cheer. They can immerse themselves in The Polar Express as it plays onscreen, or they can wander about and sample snacks and goodie bags while checking out magicians and balloon artists. They can also visit with the guy who wears red fur far better than that damn puppet, and take a photo for posterity. The event starts at 6 p.m. in the Special Events Center at 8004 North Dallas Parkway. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at
