Andrew Lloyd Webber had a masterpiece on his hands when he created Phantom of the Opera and the role of Christine Daae for his then wife, Sarah Brightman. Take away the props, costumes and sets, though, and the "most successful entertainment venture of all time"--as the official Web site boasts--would have a house of crickets singing the "Music of the Night." Brightman's angelic croonings and Michael Crawford's white mask alone wouldn't have made the show a 23-year running phenomenon if it wasn't for the 230 costumes, 22 scene changes and the replica of the Paris Opera House chandelier, right? The art of theater is a collective effort that extends beyond the stage. So if you want to experience some "behind the scenes" action, then don't miss The Bath House Cultural Center's latest art exhibition, Art Beyond the Stage. The exhibition will feature a collection of theater objects ranging from costumes to art renderings of set displays made for recent theatrical productions in Dallas.
