Band Geeks Grew Up into Your Boss

Sports talking-head Jim Rome got in a bit of trouble when he spouted this off on Twitter: "Is there anyone not in a marching band who thinks those dorks running around with their instruments are cool?” If this meathead’s words don’t inspire you to support marching bands — if only to piss him off — then nothing will. The folks at Dallas Winds have great timing, because their event at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center (2301 Flora St.) on Tuesday will be just the sort of big, stinky, wet sock that Rome’s pie hole deserves. The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Wind Symphony is joining forces with the Dallas Winds for “Band Geeks Forever,” a concert that will feature performances of works by Hector Berlioz, Claude Debussy, Joseph Schwanter and Paul Hindemith. Tickets start at $15 and go up to $49; more info at dws.org.
