My name is Chase Whale and I'm a movie addict.

This is a really special week for me, Chase, movie addict, and there are two reasons for that.

On Wednesday I headed out to France to cover the Cannes Film Festival for Stella Artois and film culture website GordonandtheWhale.com. Now, I'm a dreamer, but I'm also a realist. If you had asked me three and a half years ago if I thought I'd ever be going to France to watch and write about movies, I would have told you no without hesitation.

The second reason -- the reason why you're reading this here -- is that I'm now a contributor for the Mixmaster. You see, I've been a fan of the Observer and their staff for quite some time and when GATW were given the opportunity to come aboard, I shed tears of joy and then ate peanut butter just to show how my bliss had rendered me unaffected by its awful taste (you'll learn about my disdain for this product as we grow together).

Now on to the fun part: I'm going to combine these pleasing entities -- the Cannes and the Mixmaster, but, to be clear, not the peanut butter -- for the next few weeks, writing abridged journal entries on this very site about my experience at Cannes. Since this will be my first time at this very prestigious festival, expect stories on the films I see, and the frustrations from taking the wrong bus and winding up in a city where nobody speaks a word of English. Welcome to my wonderful, horrible life -- I hope you enjoy it.
