I must say, after seeing the lineup for the Lone Star Film Society's Classics at the Modern, I had to give a standing ovation—a Hitchcock showing that's not Vertigo, The Graduate back on the big screen and Willy Wonka in full-color glory—what's not to love? I wish the Inwood would take a hint for their weekend midnight movies (hey, don't we sponsor that? Oops...moving on). The Modern's next film is on my list of Halloween movies to show the nephews. For fear of traumatizing them with a Chucky or Freddy, I show them the old '50s and '60s haunts, proving that black and white with cheesy dialogue can still give the heebie-jeebies. 1961's The Innocents should do the trick with Deborah Kerr as a governess to two creepy kids in 19th-century England. Think The Sound of Music gone bad.
