When you leave the state--and say you're from Texas--it's common to be stereotyped quite quickly as a Southern, y'all-sayin' lover of hot sauce and barbecue. There is, of course, some truth to the caricature--who doesn't like Sonny Bryan's or the convenience of sidestepping gender plurality with a simple y'all? But take a closer peek into the window of our city's soul and you'll see traces of cultural swagger somewhere. It's not like Dallas has its own reality show on Bravo yet, but with the new Performing Arts Center, the beautiful museum district in downtown, and the rising stardom of Louise Black, our city is becoming more and more, well, sexy (take that Miami Social, NYC Prep and you so-called "Real" Housewives of Atlanta!). Prove the naysayers wrong by taking them to this year's DADA Fall Gallery Walk and Panel Discussion on Saturday. The 33 galleries, museums and nonprofit art spaces who are members of the Dallas Art Dealers Association will be opening their doors for free from 2 to 8 p.m. to art lovers, socialites and gallery crashers alike. Maps for the walk (which is actually a drive, since the museums are spotted around the city) will be available at each location or on dallasartdealers.org. Locations include Design District, Uptown, Deep Ellum, Fair Park, Downtown/Oak Cliff and the Park Cities. Hours may vary so check out individual listings.
