DeFord Calls The Shots

UT Arlington’s Maverick Speakers Series kicks off its fifth season with a lecture by legendary sportswriter Frank Deford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deford has contributed to Sports Illustrated since 1962 and currently serves as the magazine’s senior contributing writer. In addition to his work as commentator for NPR’s Morning Edition and HBO’s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel, Deford has published 17 books, including his latest memoir, Over Time: My Life as a Sportswriter. Have questions about your favorite point guard or second baseman? An audience Q&A and book signing follow the lecture. The event is free to the public. If you prefer VIP treatment, a $25 “Preferred Package” offers front-of-the-line access to the signing, reserved parking and reserved front-row seating. Call the box office at 817-272-9595 or visit uta.edu/maverickspeakers. Deford will speak on UTA’s campus at Texas Hall, 701 South Nedderman Drive in Arlington.
