Designing Against The Bias

Texas is such a curious fashion market. We’re inherently prone to shopping and collecting, but when it comes to growing our own labels, there are very few to speak of. The Texas Next Top Designer Awards addresses that conundrum by choosing the state’s greatest fabric artists and then whittling them down to a final winning name. Once selected, that talented designer receives all kinds of rewards, but the largest and most impressive is the $30,000 in seed money to help make their collection collectable. Yes, it’s a very big deal. And that final reveal, the big a-ha! moment, takes place on Friday evening at the Announcement Gala at SISU (2508 Maple Ave.) from 7 to 10 p.m. Individual tickets range from $25 to $50 with VIP tables available for purchase as well.
