If you're looking to see a lot of great art in one place, head to the Mary Tomas Gallery in the Design District for one the neighborhood's best shows Saturday night. In her own right, Mary Tomas is creating some great art, and now she's bringing in some of her favorite abstract expressionists and surrealists for a one-of-a-kind exhibition of contemporary art. In this exhibition, called Scratching The Surface, Tomas hopes to highlight Latin American influences in expressionism and provide insight into the lives that the artists lead beyond their work. Local painter Fred Villanueva will have work on display alongside artists from Costa Rica, Spain, and Puerto Rico. From 6-9 p.m. Saturday, the Mary Tomas Gallery will host an opening reception for the exhibition that ends its run on October 4. More information at marytomasgallery.com.
