A fight ensued when it came to choosing who got to cover Jesse Meraz: Beyond Pleasure, a new exhibit opening at Plush. See, both of us saw the artwork at the exact same time and were ready to fight to the death until we decided to combine forces because, well, we had the same vision. This haiku should explain it: We saw "Wonderland"/Had mutual reaction/Look! Big vagina! It may be a glittery purple and green piece, but the shape in the middle is unmistakable, and we're guessing the little devil horns at the top symbolize the short-and-curlies. What the dark spots on the thighs represent is a mystery to us, but whatever it is should probably be checked out by a medical professional. Other pieces like "Happy Happy…" and "Bit-O-Tease" are similarly glittery and cooter-esque. In any other exhibit, "installation view" would resemble flowers, but when you’ve got vaglitter on the brain, it's hard not to see French ticklers. An opening reception for Jesse Meraz: Beyond Pleasure runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Plush, 1222 Commerce St, Suite 403. The exhibit runs every Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. through February 25.
