I've seen a lot of interesting religious bumper stickers while driving around. Of course you have your run-of-the-mill "God is my co-pilot" ones or "God bless America." Then you have the inevitable battles between the Jesus fish and the Darwin fish. Sometimes, however, you get some rather entertaining fare such as "Jesus loves you but everybody else thinks you're an asshole." The religious advertising goes far beyond bumper stickers, though, as photographer Sam Fentress shows us in his new book, Bible Road: Signs of Faith in the American Landscape. God-slogans cover the American landscape in Spanish and English. They're on rocks, trees, billboards, silos, restaurants, auto-repair shops and beauty salons. Fentress took these photographs in 49 states over a period of 25 years. His work will be on exhibit through December 8 at the Afterimage Gallery, located in the Quadrangle, 2800 Routh St., No. 141.
