Hot Pocket of Laughs

You don't need an explanation of who Jim Gaffigan is, do you? The "Pale Force" cartoons on Conan? Sierra Mist, Saturn and Rolling Rock commercials? Perhaps single-handedly launching the Great Bacon Craze of 2006? OK, surely you know him from his absurd obsession with Hot Pockets. Yeah, that guy. Even without the crutches of profanity, drug references or politics, his material seems tailor-made for stoners because his stand-up jokes are almost all about junk food, television and his own laziness ("It's hard to find time to work out when you really don't want to."). On Waffle House: "If you've never been to a Waffle House, just imagine a gas station bathroom that sells waffles. I love Waffle House--and not just because watching someone fry an egg while smoking a cigarette reminds me of my dad." But the genius of Gaffigan is most evident when he pauses and pretends to be a befuddled or offended audience member wondering just how long this bit about, say, bacon is going to go on. He performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets are $35.75 to $42.75 plus a convenient $8.25 service charge through or 800-745-3000.
