Believe one thing: We love us some outsiders. You don't become a free alternative weekly rag glomming on to the mainstream or the popular lunch table. No, some could say we were the art kids, the goths, the nerds, or the stoners in high school. So when we heard of Jessica Luther's new gallery space, Smoke and Mirrors, we got super stoked (as the kids used to say). Smoke and Mirrors features the "outsider" and underground art of Dallas, and it's celebrating it's first opportunity to do so with a one-night grand opening event Friday, October 1. More than 20 artists will have their work on display, and while browsing it attendees can also enjoy the outcast sounds of Unconscious Collective, Lychgate and DJ Discipline. From 4 p.m. to midnight, the drinks are free and so are glances at mediums from canvas to sculpture to taxidermy. Smoke and Mirrors is located at 1920 N. Haskell Ave. Call 214-370-9242.
