Lather Up

Who among us hasn't caught a few minutes of a soap opera and fantasized just for a moment about being a soap star? Soap operas level the great acting playing field because you don't have to be particularly talented nor particularly attractive to be a soap star. Sure, being hot helps (have you seen Ingo Rademacher on GH?), but you can be pretty average-looking and still score a plum role as a witch on Passions or an accident victim on As the World Turns. All you really need is the ability to memorize lines of cheesy dialogue, apply lip gloss and look impetuous. Or comatose. Whatever. SOAPnet and Dish Network are giving all of us hopefuls a chance for a walk-on role in Days of Our Lives during their "I Wanna Be a Soap Star Live!" Tour. And you know once you walk on, they're gonna want to keep you, right? So, you're going to need to apply plenty of Juicy Tube to those 18 and older lips and come out to audition at Gilley's (1135 S. Lamar St.). Registration runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then it's your chance to shine. And, on the off chance you suck, you can still meet real soap stars (Julie Pinson of DoOL and Greg Vaughan of GH), get yourself photographed in a soap scene and much more. Visit soapnet.com for more details.
