Like Father, Like Son

What does Dweezil Zappa have to prove? He's already made a name for himself despite the daunting shadow of his father's legacy. Before he was old enough to vote, Dweezil was an established guitar virtuoso, blossoming briefly into an adorable MTV personality in the late '80s and appearing more recently as the other half of a celebrity cooking couple with ex-girlfriend Lisa Loeb. What the shit was that all about, anyhow? Never you mind all that. The fact is, Dweezil's not done. He's ready to bring Pappy Zappa's sounds to the next generation, and to do so he's teamed up with some mucho talented hombres and one bad-ass-tacular mofo you might otherwise know as one Mr. Steve Vai. That's right, the guy in the David Lee Roth "Just Like Paradise" video who plays that wicked heart-shaped guitar. Yeah, the guy wearing the multicolored spandex unitard that makes him look like a Cher impersonator teaching a Jazzercise class. Whatever, it was the '80s. None of that changes the fact that the dude was behind some of Whitesnake's most killer guitar solos. Zappa Plays Zappa 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Nokia Theatre, 1001 Performance Place in Grand Prairie.
