When musician Twin Shadow announced that his upcoming tour, which includes a Dallas Granada stop, would be centered around storytelling, we got to thinking: “Hey, we like storytelling. And rooftop bars. So do our friends at the Granada and those yarn spinners over at Oral Fixation.” Which leads us to tonight’s big event, True Stories: Behind the Music, a celebration of life, fate and rock ’n’ roll. This free party takes place on the rooftop of Sundown at Granada (3520 Greenville Ave.), and it kicks off with original stories by Ken Bethea (The Old 97’s), Ward Richmond (Boys Named Sue), Mandy Aguilar (author) and Randy Brooks (who wrote the seasonal anthem “Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer.”). Then we’ll let local musicians get up and tell their tales of sordid tour experiences and possible arrests. The whole thing shuts down with readings from our True Stories Confession Hotline (214-814-5033: Call and leave an anonymous confession). There’ll be giveaways from the Granada and the Observer, cheap drinks with $3 drafts and wells, and many, many awkward moments. Visit granadatheater.com. This free party runs from 8 p.m. on.
