Dallas has certainly seen its share of film festivals this year. The AFI was amazing (though I still want my two hours back from that Hal Hartley movie), the USA Film Festival showed some real gems, and the Asian Film Festival is yet to come. And yet, despite all of the harrowing, moving and beautiful works that these festivals have brought or will bring to the area, there's probably none as important as today's Pet Flix Film Festival, presented by the SPCA of Texas. Not only will short films, music videos and documentaries showcase the talents of both filmmakers and animals of every variety, but all proceeds will go to benefit the very worthy SPCA. I'm fully aware that other festivals brought Christian Bale to Dallas and launched multiple sightings of the Wilson brothers at Ghostbar, but that can't compete with the homeless puppies and kitties available for adoption outside the event. And while glimpsing Morgan Freeman at AFI was really cool, you could win an Alaskan cruise for two at Pet Flix. The family-friendly (read: David Lynch-free) film festival will be held at the Granada Theater, 3524 Greenville Ave., from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at petflix.org.
Sun., June 3, 6-8:30 p.m.
