One of my first Dallas Observer stories was on an "apparition" of the Virgin Mary that appeared in the bark of a tree in Oak Cliff. Turns out the miracle was the creation of two little girls, but whatever, crowds flocked. Eventually, the family sold the tree to GoldenPalace.com, which had previously bought a grilled cheese sandwich emblazoned with the Blessed Mother's face. Good times. The point is, the Virgin Mary can command a crowd and a buck. She's Mexico's patron saint after all, and millions worship her. To see local artists' representations of "La Virgen," check out the free 15th Annual Virgin of Guadalupe Exhibit at the Ice House Cultural Center, 1004 W. Page St., through January 5. The Center is open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m Saturday. Call 214-670-7524 or visit dallasculture.org. Who knows, Mary might show up.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 9. Continues through Jan. 5
