Meet Big D's D-Files

We've all seen the stereotypical dragonfly--the little stick bug with four wings that resides on juice glasses or pillows or wallpaper or garden stakes. Seems like unfairly limited representation when you consider that in Dallas alone there are 75 species of the "winged jewel." Texas Discovery Gardens in Fair Park offer a special four-hour workshop with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service biologist Omar Bocanegra. Tour the gardens and Fair Park, meet several of the flying creatures and learn what makes dragonflies so darn amazing...aside from those beautiful iridescent wings, that is. Winged Jewels: Dragonfly Workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $30, or $24 for TXDG members. To register, call 214-428-7476 or visit
Sat., June 12, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., 2010
KEEP THE DALLAS OBSERVER FREE... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
