Mom Jeans

Stein Mart's slogan is "Once you go, you get it." And they're right. The first time I went to Stein Mart I was like, "Oh, I get it. It's for Moms." Your mom totally goes there, sporting her mom pants and her mom shirt and trying on some nice momcessories. Probably carrying a mom tote of some sort. And from 10 a.m. to noon this Wednesday, your mom would love to go to the Stein Mart Fashion Show and welcoming tea with the Volunteer Guild at the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, 1 Nature Place in McKinney. Even if the clothes aren't your speed, you can check out all the cool nature and science stuff going on at the museum. Plus, you'll hear 10 reasons you should join the Volunteer Guild (reasons one through eight being that it's a guild that's tights and swords optional). It's free. Take your mom. Call 972-562-5566 or visit heardmuseum.org.

KEEP THE DALLAS OBSERVER FREE... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Alice Laussade writes about food, kids, music, and anything else she finds to be completely ridiculous. She created and hosts the Dallas event, Meat Fight, which is a barbecue competition and fundraiser that benefits the National MS Society. Last year, the event raised $100,000 for people living with MS, and 750 people could be seen shoving sausage links into their faces. And one time, she won a James Beard Award for Humor in Writing. That was pretty cool.
