Naked Time

Sometimes, great ideas for children's entertainment don't just go bad—they get awkward. Remember Xuxa, the Brazilian children's show host who delighted kids with flying spaceships and fun songs? Probably not—the show tanked in the States once parents found out Xuxa was a former nightclub dancer and erotic movie actress. And what about those excited kids who went to the whimsical, elaborate Neverland Ranch? Hoo, boy. That same level of apprehension might also be fitting for The Emperor's New Clothes at Dallas Children's Theater, 5938 Skillman Ave. You might say such worries are crazy. After all, kids would love to see the funny story of a stupid king whose folly is proven when he's tricked into...walking around naked. Eep. The DCT advertises that choreographer Nancy Schaeffer adds "contemporary zing" to the production...hopefully, Schaeffer wasn't inspired by Puppetry of the Penis. The play runs 7:30 p.m. Fridays, 1:30 p.m Saturdays and 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sundays until July 23 (closed on July 1 and 2). Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for children (and no, there's no nudity). Call 214-740-0051.
Saturdays, Sundays, 1:30 p.m.; Sundays, 4:30 p.m.; Fridays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 1:30 p.m.; Sundays, 4:30 p.m. Starts: June 17. Continues through July 23
