No Graduation Day for You

I'm perfect gang material. I mean, I love the matching jackets, and I'm super great at tying bandanas. I could be front row in any gang versus gang dance-off, any day. But, last time I went to gang tryouts, things looked way less like West Side Story and Grease than I wanted them to. I was like, "Where are the musical numbers? And why is nobody else wearing spandex?" So, until I find a gang that's more dancey-dancey, less stabby-stabby, my snapping talents will have to wait. If you want hard-core dancing and singing gang action, see the pleathery John Travolta in Grease, showing 6 p.m. Friday (as part of a summer film series) at Myers Park and Event Center, 7117 County Road 166 in McKinney. It's $10 per vehicle. Bring the kids. Call 972-548-4792 or visit
Fri., June 1, 6 p.m.
KEEP THE DALLAS OBSERVER FREE... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Alice Laussade writes about food, kids, music, and anything else she finds to be completely ridiculous. She created and hosts the Dallas event, Meat Fight, which is a barbecue competition and fundraiser that benefits the National MS Society. Last year, the event raised $100,000 for people living with MS, and 750 people could be seen shoving sausage links into their faces. And one time, she won a James Beard Award for Humor in Writing. That was pretty cool.
