You know that saying "you learn something new every day"? Well, ladies and gentlemen, you're about to learn something right now! This very second! Right this moment! Forgive me if I sound like the ShamWow guy--someone forgot to turn off the TV last night and I think the infomercials brainwashed me. Anyway, did you know you can do more with beer than just drink it? Apparently, you can pour it on your lawn to help it grow, polish wood furniture with it and or even use it to kill snails, slugs and mice. My three favorite unexpected beer activities are bathing in it (the yeast keeps your skin all nice and smooth), drinking it (because you have an upset tummy) and, of course, cooking with it. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Joe Synatschk, a chef and beer expert, will be teaching a Cooking With Beer class at Central Market Fort Worth (4651 West Freeway) for $60 per person. Chef Synatschk will demonstrate everything from Chimay steamed mussels with garlic frites to Guinness braised lamb shank. For more information, call 817-377-9005.
