Everything I ever needed to know about science I learned by watching Jeff Goldblum. Some of the lessons I've picked up along the way: When working on teleportation experiments, make sure to call an exterminator first to get rid of any pesky insects. Aliens are ugly, smelly and susceptible to computer viruses. And, most important, when a crazy old man builds a theme park featuring live dinosaurs, the smartest thing that a person can do is run and hide. Just make sure it's not into a nearby bathroom. For some odd reason, though, the rest of the world doesn't see Goldblum as the brilliant mind that I do but merely as a sometimes-entertaining actor. For those naysayers, there are always the fine folks at the Science Place to do the job the right way. For years they've been giving kids a fun place for some hands-on learning, enlisting the community's help through volunteers and donations. Do your part and join in for Dino Dash 13 & Discovery Fest, a day full of races, costume contests and fun exhibits benefiting the Science Place. Dino Dash 13 & Discovery Fest take place Saturday with race registration starting at 6:30 a.m. The Science Place is located at Fair Park, 1318 2nd Ave. Call 214-428-5555 or visit dinodash.com.
