Shiny Makes Happy People

Like crows, lots of ladies like shiny things. I know this because I am a lady (not a crow, though I have been accused of squawking) who oohs and ahhs over flashy sequins and bright baubles. Some of us can’t help it; it’s in our nature to accessorize. What we women also adore is a good bargain. Both can be had at the International Gem and Jewelry Show this weekend. The show caters to wholesalers, but there’s a big section for us regular people who don’t wheel and deal in diamonds. The show promises unique treasures, gold and silver pieces, exotic gems, beads and pearls — all at a discount. Pieces plucked from estate sales may yield one-of-a-kind vintage finds. Get there early before the best deals disappear. The International Gem and Jewelry Show is at Dallas Market Hall, 2200 N. Stemmons Freeway. The show is noon to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $6. Kids younger than 8 are not allowed into the show. Visit intergem.com.
Fri., Oct. 7, 12-6 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 8, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 9, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., 2011
KEEP THE DALLAS OBSERVER FREE... Since we started the Dallas Observer, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Dallas, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
