When I was a kid, nothing spiced up a school assembly quicker than a little Ballet Folklorico. Some hand claps, some stomping, some pretty dresses twirling, some cool embroidered pants, some sexually suggestive dances, some sombreros—all way more interesting than your average principal’s speech. Our high school even had its own Ballet Folklorico troupe, though honestly, their enthusiasm left something to be desired .(If you’re gonna get onstage and twirl your skirt around, try not to chew gum and look bored. Flag girls, this goes for you too.) This Sunday, live out the DISD school assembly experience at the Meyerson Symphony Center (2301 Flora St.), where Ballet Folklórico de México will hold court for two performances at 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 to $75. Sun., Oct. 15, 3:30 & 8 p.m.
